First of all, thank you to everyone who has been so patient in waiting for this review! I’ve been trialing a pair of Avulux migraine glasses for the past several months (almost 6 now to be exact) and am so excited to share my experience with you guys.
I take product recommendation very seriously and only endorse items on the blog that have made a significant difference in my life. It can be overwhelming when it feels like every single day there is a new gadget being recommended for one health condition or another. It has always been important for me to be completely transparent and intentional about the products I put my personal stamp of approval on.
That being said — after 6 months of almost daily use, I can confidently say that I am a big fan of Avulux Migraine glasses.
Prior to trying this brand, I used Theraspecs, Axon Optics and regular blue light blocking glasses from Eye Buy Direct. Sensitivity to screens and bright lights is one of my biggest triggers, so finding a pair of glasses to help with that has always been a high priority.
After only using red FL-41 tinted migraine lenses (Theraspecs and Axon) I was really intrigued to learn about Avulux’s newly engineered grey tinted migraine prevention lenses. The technology behind these patented lenses was developed over the course of eight years and has already been classified in Canada, the U.K., and the European Union as a Class I medical device. Avulux conducted three clinical trials on their glasses and they’ve been shown to treat and prevent migraine attacks; in fact, Avulux lenses are the only optical filters on the market that have been proven for the specific treatment and prevention of migraines. I consider this a huge win since I am always looking for non-pharmacologic tools to add to my arsenal.
The lenses function as a migraine preventative and treatment by absorbing specific wavelengths of light that have been identified as irritants to migraine sensitive eyes. As they filter light, the lenses are designed to protect your eyes, and effectively your brain, from being triggered into an attack. When I’m wearing them, I like to think of them as little “eyeball security guards” — denying entry to the wavelengths of light trying to enter my field of vision and cause trouble.
Avulux makes some pretty impressive claims about their lenses. They assert that 38% of users’ headaches completely disappear when worn at the onset of a migraine. Another 36% of users claim that their pain is normally eliminated within 30 minutes. My experience didn’t quite reflect these numbers, but I have found that I am more comfortable viewing screens through these glasses (in comparison to the other brands I have tried). They are one of the migraine tools that I now reach for daily.
I experience the most benefit from my Avulux glasses when I am looking at a phone or computer screen. I also use them when watching TV. Wearing them has significantly extended the amount of time I can spend looking at a screen before head pain is triggered, and also reduced the amount of discomfort from screens once an attack is already in progress.
I also find them helpful when I am out and about in stores with bright, triggering, overhead (usually florescent) lighting. Big stores — like Walgreens, Target, grocery stores, malls, etc… — can cause my light sensitive eyes to experience pain and act as a catalyst for the onset of a migraine attack. My Avulux glasses have helped to “turn down the volume” on my light sensitivity and allow me to extend the amount of time I can spend in brightly lit spaces.
Another one of my favorite things about Avulux is that they offer a 60 day home trial period. The cost of migraine management can become prohibitively expensive due to pricey medications, devices, glasses, missed work time, etc…the list seems endless! The last thing any of us want to do is to waste money on a product that may not have any effect. I really appreciate that Avulux recognizes this by giving us a chance to try them out risk free.
If you’d like to try a pair, use the code MINDFULMIGRAINE at checkout on the Avulux website for $15 off your purchase. I hope this is helpful for you guys, please feel free to pop any questions below!
I share each step along my road to wellness and healing and hope that in doing so I can inspire you along your own path. Thank you so much for being here.
I am so excited to read your review! I don’t know if you’d know the answer but thought I’d ask; do you know if these can be made with an eye prescription? When I return to work in a few months the overhead lights and computers hurt my eyes but I need glasses but I feel these could be helpful …. and double glasses would not be #fashun lol
If you wear prescription, the Avulux ‘for prescription’ frame options come with both a frame and titanium clip-on. The clip-on contains Avulux migraine lenses while the frame contains blank lenses that customers can replace with their own prescription at their local optometrist.
I’m really excited to try these. Could you advise what options we should select if we are using them to help with migraine? I want to make sure I set them up properly/get the correct lenses. Is it the blue light blocking and light adjusting? Thank you, Natalie!
Hi, Jackie. There is only one Avulux migraine lens to choose from on our website. If you wear prescription, our ‘for prescription’ option comes with both a frame and titanium clip-on. The clip-on contains our Avulux migraine lenses while the frame contains blank lenses that customers can replace with their own prescription at their local optometrist.
Do you prefer these to Theraspecs and Axon? If so, why? 🙂

I can’t wear sunglasses because I feel nauseous. Even if the frame wrap around the ears .
